L.A.’s Wasted Youth

Format : CD

LA’s Wasted Youth is widely recognized as one of the pioneering bands to emerge from the original Southern California hardcore punk explosion of the early 1980s. Formed in Los Angeles in 1980 by legendary guitarist, songwriter, and founder Chett Lehrer, the band quickly established a reputation for explosive live performances, relentless energy, and uncompromising musicianship. Their aggressive sound and fearless approach helped shape the evolution of American hardcore punk and later the hardcore-to-thrash crossover movement.

The band’s landmark debut album, Reagan’s In (1981), became an underground hardcore classic and remains one of the defining releases of the era. They followed with the critically acclaimed Get Out of My Yard EP (1986), further solidifying their place in punk rock history. LA’s Wasted Youth headlined and shared the stage with Black Flag, Social Distortion, TSOL, Circle Jerks, Bad Religion, Adolesents and Desendents and many others. As the band’s sound evolved, LA’s Wasted Youth became one of the first Southern California hardcore bands to successfully bridge the gap between punk and speed metal, helping influence what would later become known as crossover thrash. That evolution culminated with the release of Black Daze (1988), an album that showcased the band’s heavier musical direction while retaining the intensity and attitude that had defined them from the beginning. During this period, LA’s Wasted Youth toured extensively and shared stages with legendary bands including Exodus, Overkill, Death Angel, D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies, and many others, while continuing to perform alongside the biggest names in hardcore punk.

Due overwhelming public demand LA’s Wasted Youth has returned in 2026 with an exceptional lineup led by original founder Chett Lehrer, joined by bassist Eddie Tatar (D.I., The Dickies), drummer Adam Gomez (The Dickies), and vocalist Nigel Burk (Carsex). The reunited band performs classic material spanning its celebrated catalog while introducing powerful new songs that capture the same intensity, authenticity, and uncompromising spirit that first made LA’s Wasted Youth one of Southern California’s most respected hardcore bands.

Now, with renewed momentum, LA’s Wasted Youth is actively writing and recording new studio material for the fans. The band is currently in the studio working on a collection of brand-new songs that stay true to the band’s hardcore roots while showcasing the natural evolution of its songwriting and musicianship. The forthcoming recordings are scheduled for release in the near future and mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter, proving that LA’s Wasted Youth is not simply revisiting its past, but continuing to create music with the same passion, intensity, and conviction that established its legacy more than four decades ago.

LA’s Wasted Youth remains one of the enduring architects of Southern California hardcore punk. Their music has influenced generations of musicians, their legacy continues to grow, and their return demonstrates that the band’s story is far from over. With new recordings, new live performances, and an unwavering commitment to authenticity, LA’s Wasted Youth continues to build on a legacy that has earned its place on among the most respected names in punk rock history.
