Gene Loves Jezebel
Michael Aston is the foundational driving force, primary lyricist, and distinctive lead vocalist of the 1980s alternative rock band Gene Loves Jezebel. He originally conceived and formed the project in 1981—initially under the name Slavaryan—before relocating from Wales to London with his identical twin brother, Jay.
As the frontman, Aston’s theatrical, powerful vocals guided the group from their moody post-punk and gothic rock beginnings to major international and commercial breakthrough success in the mid-to-late ’80s with hits like “Heartache,” “Desire (Come and Get It),” and “The Motion of Love”.
Following creative friction and a subsequent 1997 permanent split between the brothers, a legal settlement divided the band’s naming rights. Ever since, Michael Aston has flown the official Gene Loves Jezebel banner across the United States and the rest of the world, continuing to deliver their passionate, live-instrument-driven early sound to global audiences.
